It has no hot-spotting like the various LED panels, its the same technology the Gameboy Light uses. Requires soldering 2 wires and trimming the Shell's viewing window.Īnd if you really wanna get exotic, Kitsch Bent has an Electroluminescent Back-light panel. if its a slower moving game or puzzle game it works well. I honestly don't notice a difference between the various brands, I have used Density White V1 back-lights from Retro Modding in a fair few DMGs and I have used Handheld Legend White Back-lights, and I don't think the difference matters other than the hot-spotting on the HHL one being slightly stronger, but that could be any number of factors.īennvenn also has a 3 inch DMG Replacement LCD that uses an FTN panel, so its got more blur/ghosting than a stock DMG LCD, but I love it for playing RPGs like Poke'mon, Dragon Quest, Zelda etc.
If you want to tackle back lighting your existing LCDs yourself, I use Density Back-lights, the V1 White is normal, the V2 is just brighter and basically needs to be paired with a Bivert mod. u/bennvenn has a drop in solution for the DMG and MGB in the works though, so if you can wait, then thats your safest and only criteria meeting option.
Every option will involve at least 1 of those 3 tasks. At the moment there is no screen that is drop in, solder-less or trim-less.
